“If you want it, go for it. Take a risk. Don’t always play it safe or you’ll die wondering”

A few years ago, I attended a Harris County Office of Emergency Management internship interview with Judge Ed Emmett. His message left a lasting impression when he told me; Never pass up an opportunity.

The Judge shared stories of opportunities he embarked upon since his days as a tennis pro. No matter how scary the change appeared, he was always willing to take a chance. Each endeavor provided him with new adventures and taught him to embrace opportunities outside his comfort zone.

Six-months ago, an epic opportunity presented itself. With hesitation I pursued… as my mentor had suggested. If nothing else, I wanted to see where the path might lead.

To my astonishment, everything has fallen into place. In a mere 4-weeks, my beautiful and supportive wife and I are moving overseas for the next chapter of our life. Hard to believe I’m retiring from TMRS after 23-years in the fire service.index--element32
